Kuakiniís Laboratory Receives Accreditations

The College of American Pathologists (CAP) awarded re-accreditation to Kuakini Medical Centerís (Kuakiniís) Laboratory through June 27, 2013 based on the results of an onsite inspection. Kuakini also received a two-year re-accreditation from AABB (formerly known as the American Association of Blood Banks).
Kuakini is among nearly 7,000 CAP-accredited laboratories nationwide. The federal government has recognized the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program as being equal to or more stringent than the Medicare certification program. The CAP inspection includes examination of the laboratoryís records and quality control procedures for the preceding two years, staff qualifications and training, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, as well as the overall management of the laboratory.
The AABB Accreditation Program promotes the highest standards of care for both patients and donors in all aspects of blood banking, transfusion medicine, relationship testing, hematopoietic, cord blood and other cellular therapies.
