The Friends of Hawaii Charities, Inc. granted Kuakini Health System (Kuakini) $5,000 for its year-round “Healthful Lifestyle Promotions” program. Kuakini has received $102,500 from the Friends of Hawaii Charities, Inc. to date.
Kuakini will recognize the Friends of Hawaii Charities with a plaque on its Trees of Life Circle of Benefactors display. Donors on the Circle of Benefactors display have contributed between $100,000 and $399,999. The Friends of Hawaii Charities, Inc. had also been recognized with a plaque in the Circle of Patrons display, which acknowledges donor contributions of $50,000 to $99,999.
The funding from Friends of Hawaii Charities, Inc. enables Kuakini to provide free educational materials and health screenings at several major community events including the Great Aloha Run Sports, Health and Fitness Expo, the Primetime Wellness Fair and Kuakini’s annual Open House for students.
Free health related posters created by Kuakini, which are made possible by the grant, are available to the public in Kuakini’s Marketing and Public Relations Department. The posters promote healthful eating habits involving fiber, calcium, salt and trans fats, the benefits of not smoking, tips for a healthful sleep and proper hand washing procedures. Free brochures on various health-related topics are also available.
Since 1998, Friends of Hawaii Charities Inc., through a charity partnership with the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, has distributed more than $11 million to Hawaii charities. Funds are raised through a variety of events, including its signature event, the Sony Open in Hawaii PGA Tour tournament.
