In January 1987, Kuakini became an owner/member of Premier, Inc., a healthcare alliance collectively owned by more than 230 independent hospitals and healthcare systems in the United States. Together, they operate or are affiliated with nearly 2,300 hospitals and other healthcare sites.

The consortium provides group purchasing, networking, benchmarking, outcomes management, research, and other collaborative ventures that will assist the owners in remaining viable within their geographic markets. The consortium represents one-third of the U.S. community hospitals and one-third of the total acute hospital beds in the U.S.
