Kuakini Patients Benefit from Breakthrough Scanner
Kuakini recently installed a Philips SKYlight camera in its Nuclear Medicine Department. The camera is the world’s first gantry-free gamma camera. The SKYlight system is based on a unique architecture that allows gamma detectors to be mounted directly into a room structure, thus removing limitations associated with the floor-based mechanical gantries of existing nuclear medicine gamma cameras.
Gantry-free imaging assures excellent patient access from just about any angle, and allows for the easy position of medical devices such as IV pumps and respirators without the need to work around a fixed platform. The camera can take images from two separate patients simultaneously and has a user-friendly touch screen interface.
The SKYlight camera is part of Kuakini’s all-digital imaging services department. The images generated on Kuakini’s imaging equipment can be processed and reviewed on computer monitors without the need for film, resulting in high quality images and better patient care.
