64-slice GE Lightspeed® VCT XTe CT Scanner with ASiR
Kuakini Health System’s new 64-slice GE Lightspeed® VCT XTe is the first CT (computed tomography) scanner in Hawaii with ASiR™ (Adaptive Statistical Iterative Reconstruction) technology, which makes it possible to dramatically reduce the radiation dose to patients up to 40 percent without compromising the image quality of the scan.
CT technology is a common diagnostic exam utilized when people are injured or when a physician suspects a medical problem that is not easily detectable with a physical examination. The LightSpeed VCT XTe, however, provides new in-depth brain and cardiac techniques that make these tests more reliable and enable doctors to have more confidence in their diagnosis.
In the event of a power outage, Kuakini is one of a few hospitals in the state that can continue its CT services since the scanner is capable of running off of emergency power.
