Kuakini Receives $10,000 from Friends of Hawaii

Kuakini Health System has received a $10,000 donation from the Friends of Hawaii Charities Inc.
Kuakini will use the donation for its “Healthful Lifestyle Promotions,” a year-round program of community health events that educates the community about healthful lifestyles and reinforces the importance of practicing good health habits.
The funding from Friends of Hawaii Charities, Inc. enables Kuakini to provide free educational materials and health screenings at several major community events including the Great Aloha Run Sports, Health and Fitness Expo; First Hawaiian Bank Primetime Wellness Fair and Kuakini’s annual Open House for students.
At these events, Kuakini’s staff provides hands-on learning activities on topics such as nutrition, stress, exercise, alcohol abuse, smoking, cholesterol, diabetes, breast cancer, prostate cancer, testicular cancer, heart disease, stroke, sleep hygiene and infection control.
In its nine-year history, Friends of Hawaii Charities Inc., through a charity partnership with the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, has distributed $7 million to more than 200 Hawaii charities. Each year, funds are raised through a variety of events, including its signature event, the Sony Open in Hawaii PGA Tour tournament, and the Champions Tour Turtle Bay Championship, LPGA SBS Open at Turtle Bay and Fields Open.
The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation has been dedicated to bettering the lives of those in need since 1959. The Weinberg Foundation is one of the largest private foundations in the United States.
