"" Radiation Therapy
Ground Floor, Kuakini Medical Center

Radiation Therapy is a treatment that uses high energy X-rays and electrons to destroy or control cancer. Special machines are used to aim a predetermined amount of radiation to a specific area of your body where cancer is or could be present. The goal of radiation therapy is to destroy cancer cells with as little risk as possible to normal cells. Kuakini’s Radiation Therapy team consists of Radiation Oncologists, Radiation Therapists, Radiation Oncology Nurses, a Physicist, a Dosimetrists and ancillary staff who meet regularly to discuss a patient’s treatment plan and monitor their progress. The Radiation Therapy Department’s mission statement emphasizes the importance of being courteous, informative, empathetic and timely while providing high quality service.

Kuakini has a state-of-the-art Varian Clinac 2100 C/D Dual Energy Linear Accelerator with Multileaf Collimation capabilities, a Philips Pinnacle Treatment Planning Computer with CT Simulation/Planning and IMRT planning capabilities, an IMPAC Radiation Oncology Management System and an IMRT QA system.

Kuakini’s Radiation Therapy staff provides conventional radiation therapy treatments as well as intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) which is a state of the art cancer treatment that delivers multiple shaped beams of high energy X-rays directly to a specific area while sparing surrounding tissues and organs.
