Radiation Therapy is a treatment that uses high energy X-rays, electrons or radioactive isotopes to destroy or control cancer. Special machines are used to aim a predetermined amount of radiation at the tumor or a specific area of your body where cancer is or could be present. The goal of radiation therapy is to destroy cancer cells with as little risk as possible to normal cells. Kuakini’s Radiation Therapy team consists of Radiation Oncologists, Radiation Therapists, Radiation Oncology Nurses, a Physicist and a Dosimetrists who meet regularly to discuss a patient’s progress and treatment plan.
