Volunteer Program
Volunteering is a long time tradition at Kuakini. Give a little of yourself to someone in need. Become a Kuakini volunteer! Kuakini has over 550 active volunteers including high school students, college students, working adults and senior retirees.
Volunteers assist Health System employees with acute care, long-term care and geriatric care. Duties range from clerical support to companionship activities within nursing home residents or patient assistance at the medical center. Volunteers also participate in hospital tours for visitors. Whether its individual volunteering or as a group, Kuakini welcomes you to join our Volunteer Program.
Applications for volunteers are accepted year round, Upon acceptance into the program, volunteers attend a general orientation given by the Volunteer Services Department, then are trained by the supervisor of their assigned department. Most volunteers work one to two times a week and a minimum of three hours a shift. Weekends are available.
Requirements
• Must be 14 years of age or older
• Minimum three month commitment
• Must be able to work a set schedule of a three - four hour shift once a week

Volunteer Services Student Program
Are you thinking of a career in medicine, nursing or other related careers in a health care environment? Or, are you looking for community service hours? Look no further to gain experience.
Kuakini Health System offers high school students an opportunity to explore future health care careers. Students must be 14 years of age or older and be able to volunteer on afternoons and weekends during the school year. A limited number of departments are available during evening shifts and weekends. A few of our students volunteer during the weekday for school credits in community services. These positions are available in various departments. If you are only available during the summer, join our summer program that allows students to volunteer twice a week on a four-hour shift for six weeks. All students under the age of 18 must have parental consent.
Student Groups such as Key Club are welcomed. Group volunteers participate in our Kuakini companion program which involves patient visitations in either Hale Pulama Mau or Kuakini Medical Center.
