Established in 1982, Kuakini’s Sleep Disorders Center was the first sleep laboratory in Hawaii and has since served more than 18,000 patients. The Center provides comprehensive services to diagnose and treat patients with breathing problems during sleep, those who have loud snoring, and those who cannot stay awake during the day.
The Sleep Disorders Center is accredited by the Joint Commission, an independent health care accreditation organization. Kuakini’s Sleep Technologists are credentialed respiratory therapists and polysomnographic technologists. The Center is staffed by nine Sleep Techs and two Secretaries, and is overseen by a Medical Director who is Board-Certified in Sleep Medicine.
Supported by state-of-the-art computers and sleep research technology, the Sleep Center has a total of four beds specifically designated for the evaluation of sleep disorders. The Sleep Center partners with physicians and home care medical equipment companies to educate and support patients diagnosed with sleep apnea; additionally, the Sleep Center is an educational and research resource for other centers in the Pacific Basin as well as internationally.
All patients must be referred for a sleep study by a physician. If you suspect that you, or someone you know, has a sleep disorder contact your primary care physician.
