Kuakini residents who passed away between April 1, 2013 to March 30, 2014 were lovingly remembered by family, friends, Kuakini Health Care Team members, volunteers and fellow residents during an annual Memorial Day service in the Hale Pulama Mau auditorium.
Loved ones of 86 former Kuakini residents floated purple orchids in glass basins filled with water and offered prayers to honor and remember the residents on May 23. Some shared photos, which were displayed on tables in the front of the auditorium.
Chaplain Gail Leong from Pacific Health Ministry presented a litany of remembrance and talked about seeing the extraordinary in the ordinary and the importance of love. Hosted by Kuakini Geriatric Care, Inc. (KGC), the memorial service also served as a way to provide closure for residents in KGC’s Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF), Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) and Kuakini Home.
The Ebb Tibes performed a solemn rendition of “In This Life” and “I’ll Remember You.” The Hula Halau performed the hula dances “Nada Sou Sou” and “Kanaka Wai Wai.”
