Volunteering is a long time tradition at Kuakini. Give a little of yourself to someone in need. Become a Kuakini volunteer! Kuakini has over 400 active volunteers a year including high school students, college students, working adults and senior retirees.
Volunteers assist Health System employees with acute care, long-term care and geriatric care services. Duties range from clerical support to companionship activities with nursing home residents and patient assistance within Kuakini Medical Center. Volunteers also assist with hospital tours for visitors. Whether you prefer volunteering as an individual or with a group, Kuakini welcomes you to join our Volunteer Program.
Applications for volunteers are accepted year round. Upon acceptance into the program, volunteers attend a general orientation given by the Volunteer Services Department, then are trained by the supervisor of their assigned department. Most volunteers work one to two times a week for a minimum of three to four hours during each shift. Weekend shifts are also available.
- Must be 14 years of age or older
- Minimum three month commitment
- Must be able to work a set schedule of a three - four hour shift once a week
- Must have passed a recent (within the last 12 months) 2-step TB skin test

Kuakini Health System offers high school students an opportunity to explore future health care careers. Students must be 14 years of age or older and be able to volunteer once a week for three to four hours. A limited number of departments are available for volunteers who want to work evenings and weekends. If you are only available during the summer, join our summer program that allows students to volunteer one to two times a week for a three or four hour shift for six weeks. All students under the age of 18 must have parental consent.
