Kimberly Conner from KMC Pharmacy is the grand prize winner in Kuakini’s 2014 “Good Times, Good Places, Great Shots” Photo Contest with an underwater shot of her then-pregnant daughter. Kimberly’s first grandchild, Kanoa, was born three days after the shot was taken.
“We were out boating and swimming near Diamond Head, and I captured this shot of my daughter,” Kimberly said. “I have lived in Hawaii for 32 years and find it the most beautiful place on earth to photograph. I am always outdoors on my free time with camera in hand, exploring the island, the beaches and snorkeling in the water somewhere!”
Her winning shot – titled “Mother and Sun” – was captured on a GoPro camera. Because of her fondness for the ocean, Kimberly said her GoPro has become her go-to camera of choice.
“My favorite camera is the GoPro because of the underwater capability,” she said. “However, the watershot housing for the iPhone and Android phone is quickly becoming a favorite as well.”
A three-person panel of professional photographers reviewed more than 60 entries, and selected Kimberly’s shot as the grand prize winner. “Wonderful perspective!” said one of the judges, while another commented: “Amazing capture.”
Kimberly is in her first year working at Kuakini, so this was her first entry into the annual Photo Contest. “I was so surprised to win the grand prize on my first time,” she said. “I knew the shot was good, but I didn’t know that it would be the winning picture.”
Kuakini thanks everyone who entered this year’s Photo Contest, and extends its appreciation to Honolulu Star-Advertiser news photographers Craig Kojima, Cindy Ellen Russell and Jamm Aquino for judging the entries. A special thank you to Canon USA for donating a Canon digital camera as the grand prize.
