Kuakini's Health Care Team members are valued resources. They combine their skills, knowledge and professionalism to provide all patients, residents and visitors with a positive experience while at Kuakini. In recognition of the Health Care Team's dedication and hard work, Kuakini Health System created the idea of a Health Care Team Week Celebration to promote the health care team concept. The first annual Health Care Team Week Celebration was held in 1992 to recognize all the employees in the Health System. The employees were recognized for their contribution to the image of Kuakini and the high quality of care and service they provide to the community. Kuakini Health System continues to salute its entire Health Care Team each year during its annual Health Care Team Celebration. It is through the team effort and commitment of Kuakini's employees, physicians and community partners that Kuakini is able to continue its tradition of caring.
In recognition of their years of service and dedication to Kuakini, Health Care Team members are also honored annually when they reach milestone service years of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 years of service. Each Health Care Team member gets to choose a service recognition gift and those who have 15 or more years of service are invited to a recognition dinner held in their honor.
Throughout the year, Kuakini sponsors a variety of other activities and events for Health Care Team members. To help promote health and wellness, Zumba and yoga classes are offered weekly. Health Care Team members are also encouraged to participate in an annual HMSA Well-Being Assessment which promotes health education and screening services. Other activities for Health Care Team members include a complimentary shiatsu massage session, photo contest, and a holiday craft fair and bake sale.
Health Care Team members know the value of helping others, therefore, they generously support different community service activities. Since 2000, Kuakini has been adopting public school teachers and provided their students with basic school supplies which helps them throughout the school year. Health Care Team members have also made contributions to the Hawaii Food Bank, Goodwill Industries, Aloha United Way and special collections for residents in other countries whose homes have been destroyed by hurricanes, tsunamis or earthquakes. Kuakini is proud of its Health Care Team members, whose kindness and generosity extends throughout Hawaii and other Pacific Rim countries.
