Ricardo “Ric” Angeles, Supervisor of Kuakini’s Security Services department, not only keeps Kuakini safe, he keeps it friendly. He often reminds his ten-member staff to give extra help and take care of patients and visitors. He is an advocate for excellent customer service.
“Because we are in uniform, we stand out,” said Ric. “We are often the first person they see and we want to give them a good impression. We never say ‘we don’t know’.” As a result, he has received several Christmas cards from patients expressing their gratitude for a friendly experience at Kuakini. And because they remember, he said he appreciates patients more.
Ric is also a person who welcomes challenges. He never uses the word “can not” or “can’t be done,” he said. If something needs to be done, he will find a way to do it. “I do a lot of things outside of my job to enhance my knowledge. It’s just what I do.”
“Ric stepped into his role as the Supervisor of Security Services without hesitation,” his nominator said. “He exhibits strong leadership and knowledge of his responsibilities; and, definitely puts in 110%. He is ‘everywhere’ (comes early, stays late) and constantly makes rounds to ensure that patients, visitors, staff, and the environment are kept safe and secure. Ric is also diligent in making sure appropriate protocols and procedures are followed, including documenting RL events. He is willing to do what it takes to help Kuakini succeed.”
RL events are feedback from Kuakini patients, residents or visitors, which may be complaints, compliments or suggestions. Documentation is done through an event reporting system by RL Solutions. Kuakini uses this feedback to continually improve its services.
Ric said he has received ample support from Kuakini since taking on the supervisory position. “I like the people here. It’s like a second home, a second family,” he said. “The managers make my job easy, they’re very cooperative. I am also grateful to Kuakini’s administration for their support. I appreciate them.”
Ric started at Kuakini as a Security Officer in 1984 and became the Supervisor of Security Services in December 2013. With his Security Services team, he maintains a safe environment for Kuakini, patients, residents, physicians, volunteers, visitors and staff. Security officers also assist with parking and special events, and take care of the decontamination equipment. They work closely with the Facilities, Biomedical and Environmental Services departments.
During his free time, Ric enjoys cooking Italian food and grilling. He also enjoys working on home improvement projects.
