Congratulations to Suzette Lau-Hee

“Generous” – that’s the first word that comes to mind when you talk to Suzette Lau-Hee, a two-time Employee of the Month awardee. Co-workers also describe her as thoughtful, creative, positive and brimming with love for the 26 Kuakini Home residents under her care.
“I try to do what I can for the residents. I enjoy doing things for them,” Suzette said. “I’m very blessed to be here, to be part of their lives… and to see the smile on their faces when they show their appreciation – that’s the rewarding part.”
As a clerk for Kuakini Home since July 2004, Suzette’s responsibilities include keeping the resident records up-to-date, handling paperwork for new and discharged residents, coordinating activities or excursions, providing tours for prospective residents, and planning holiday parties.
But Suzette always goes beyond her job description, adding a special touch into everything she does. Her nominator recalled seeing her serving everybody during the recent Mother’s Day and Father’s Day piano concert for the residents.
“In addition to making sure the piano students had a snack, she also personally prepared a special lunch for the residents,” her nominator said. “She cooked traditional food items that the elderly like to eat and are not available to them, and (she) wants to make sure that they feel special.”
For the Father’s Day celebration, Suzette ordered bentos.
“Suzette is an extraordinary employee. It takes a special person to work with the elderly. She does it with a positive attitude and a caring heart,” said her nominator. “And she makes Kuakini Home a home for everyone.”
She has also volunteered to help with numerous Kuakini community activities such as the Great Aloha Run Expo and the recent Liliha Town History Walk.
Outside of work, Suzette is a member of the Japanese Women’s Society, which raises funds for Kuakini Home, and has been serving the organization for the past 20 years. She likes shopping and traveling with her husband.
